Blueberry Blowup!!

Published by Darlene on

Sometimes we stop and ask ourselves, “How did I get myself into this?” For me, it’s because I can’t say “no.” Or because the sentence spoken to me started with “Mom, we need…..” This time I think it was because I found a picture and actually said, “Oh that doesn’t look too hard.” Of course I meant for someone else. But alas, I did make a blueberry for my daughter’s Willy Wonka play. My daughter was not the blueberry or Violet, but this is her trying on the blueberry costume for me to see if it was going to work. So after studying the Pinterest post about it, applying 8 layers of paper mache, and fighting with the fabric,…..OH and a month of my life, I ended up with this.

Blueberry

Then came the day, I took it to rehearsal. The little girl, who was to wear the costume, was on vacation. So I could not even try it on her. I left it over in a corner, thinking it would be ok. NOPE! Two boys, whom we shall not call by name, were horsing around and triped over each other and completely “smashed” the blueberry. They popped it back out and with a few minor repairs I think we can make it work. All that work, BOOM!, in one second.

Have you ever felt that way in life? I have. I have poured myself into a project only to have it collaspe right in front of me. For me, I know it was because I got so caught up in what I could do that I didn’t consult the Lord about it. In fact, when I look back on it, I still had time with Him and still prayed everyday, I just didn’t discuss this particular matter or project. I was so confident that I had it handled. Please tell me, I am not alone!

The Blueberry Blowup! was a great reminder of this past mistake and to help- make sure that my steps are sure in the Lord, going forward.
Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Phil. 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Well how do we commit to the Lord all that we do? By prayer and petition and with thanksgiving. We talk to the Lord about every bit of it, don’t leave anything out. It sounds super simple, but it is the practice of it that is hard. Pray when things are good, when they are bad, when they are unsure, and even when we think we know exactly what we are doing. PRAY!!

The little episode the other day was a great little reminder that prayer will help prevent the “Blueberry Blowups” of life.
